Drywall Duty In Western Canada

Update (November 17, 2016) – Today CHBA submitted its formal brief and corroborating evidence to the Canadian International Trade Tribunal on the impact of duties on drywall being imported from the U.S. to Western Canada.

We have engaged legal counsel to represent CHBA, and are continuing to prepare our testimony for the public hearing later this month in Edmonton.

CHBA has focused its arguments on how drywall contractors, home builders, renovators, consumers and the economy are being hurt by the soaring prices and uncertain supply of drywall triggered by the duty. Our evidence in large part comes thanks to the over 500 builders, renovators and drywall contractors who responded to our survey.

CHBA is pleased that its efforts, and the efforts of members, have accelerated the process and expanded the scope of the duty review process to also consider the impact of these duties on downstream users and the Western Canadian economy.
