Prescription to Performance – Courtenay B.C.

This 7.5 CPD seminar is specifically created to lead builders, designers, building officials, energy advisors, and developers to simplified practical solutions for high performance building enclosure assemblies that satisfy prescriptive requirements for various levels of the Step Code up to Net Zero Ready and Passive House. It includes a focus on pending requirements for North Island, West Coast, and Sunshine Coast construction.

After an introduction discussing the Step Code requirements and essential building enclosure science for higher R-value enclosures, the seminar shifts to detailed review of building enclosure assembly options (wall, roof, & below grade) that will become the new standards in the industry. Appropriate building enclosure detailing for water, air and vapor control and insulation materials are discussed.

Throughout the seminar, 3 large scale mock-ups are used to demonstrate key detailing considerations and 4 different alternates for constructing higher R-value wall systems and interfaces.

The seminar is presented by RDH Building Science’s Graham Finch. Graham is a building science engineer who specializes in enclosure design, research, and investigation work. His many publications include BC Housing’s Wood-frame Building Enclosure Design Guide. This seminar will provide participants an opportunity to directly ask their pressing questions related to new building enclosure details and will provide draft materials of new builder guides for net zero wall systems.
